Abstract

1,240,572. Moulding plastic substances. AMERICAN STANDARD INC. 9 Oct., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 49551/69. Heading B5A. A plastics article with a decorative surface is moulded by first applying a plastics coating 12 in a pattern to the polished surface of a mould 10 by means of a stencil or a silk screen process, the coating including a filler which is non- polishable, then applying a second plastics coating 14 having a filler of good polishing characteristics over the first coating and the rest of the mould surface, and finally applying a fibre-glass reinforced resin 16 to provide the desired article thickness. On removal from the mould surface the facing surface of the article is subjected to a polishing action to provide contrasting surfaces. The coatings may comprise polyester resin.
