A gear-wheel, chair wheel or gear-belt wheel is formed of thermoplastic material 3, such as a polyamide, having at least one metallic reinforcing disc 2 provided with openings 5, for the plastics, and secured to a metal hub 1 which is provided over its whole length with a covering of plastics material. The disc 2 is preferably secured to a flange 8 on hub 1 by soldering, welding or casting, and it may taper radially in the direction of the rim and/or may be provided with a bulge 7 at its outer periphery. Tongues 6 may project from the flanks of the disc to support it against the wall of the mould during manufacture or to space apart a plurality of reinforcing discs during manufacture.
