Abstract

1331322 Making wheels MAGNESIUM ELEKTRON Ltd 16 Feb 1972 [17 Feb 1971] 4826/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division B7] A wheel comprises a pair of magnesium alloy, circular, wrought dishes 1, 2 arranged base-tobase and separated by a hub 6 and packing member 7, each dish having a wall portion 4 extending from the base 3 with an outwardly projecting circumferential lip 5, all the parts of the wheel being bonded together by an epoxy resin adhesive with gaps 11 filled with a foaming adhesive and a tension plate 8 bonded or welded between the wall portions. The packing member may be made of an expanded or honeycomb structure metal, e.g. aluminium or an aluminium alloy, or of an expanded or honeycomb structure plastics material. As an alternative the packing member may comprise at least four diaphragms extending radially outwardly from the hub and secured to the dishes by riveting or welding. Passageways 9 and 10 in the hub, if formed before fabrication, may be used with a jig to locate the parts during assembly of the wheel.
