Abstract

1,240,338. Dyeing yarns. ANDREW ENG. (NOTTINGHAM) Ltd. 2 Sept., 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 26414/68. Heading D1C. Yarn is dyed in a random manner by the passage of the yarn in the form of a temporarily knitted fabric in taut condition past a spraying device comprising reciprocating nozzles on one or both sides of the fabric. The fabric may be in the form of a knitted tube which is flattened before spraying. Sprayed areas may overlap. More than one coloured dye may be employed. The nozzles 25 are mounted in a yoke 14 attached to a slideable shaft 15 having a dependent pin 8 engaged in a peripheral track of a wheel 19 inclined to its shaft 20, rotation of the wheel 19 causing the pin and hence the nozzles 25 to reciprocate in a horizontal direction. The dye liquor is forced out of containers 35 by compressed air from tubes 36 and is mixed with compressed air from tube 27 at the nozzles 25 to form a spray.
