Abstract

In an induction flowmeter, the magnetic-fieldproducing coil is mounted in a ring 1 with its axis coinciding with that of the ring, the ring also supporting two pairs of electrodes 3. The ring is of streamlined cross-section, and is provided with tubes 4, containing conductors for the electrodes and coil, extending to electronic apparatus 5. The device is suspended in an electrically conducting liquid with the plane of the ring substantially parallel to the flow direction. In this manner the direction and value of the flow velocity in the horizontal direction may be determined. If the flow direction has a vertical as well as a horizontal component, a second ring may be provided with its plane perpendicular to the plane of the ring 1, Figs.4 and 6 (not shown), and in this manner the direction and absolute value of this flow velocity may be determined. The device may be mounted on the bed of the liquid body, Figs.3 and 4 (not shown), may be attached to the bed of the liquid body and a buoy on the surface of the liquid Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) or may be suspended by a hoist with a weight on the device, Fig.7 (not shown).
