Abstract

1,238,535. Filling aerosol dispensers. C. G. SIEBEL. 26 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 45714/68. Heading B8T. Apparatus for charging aerosol containers with highly compressed, liquefied propellant gas or mixture, comprises a charging cylinder 8 communicating with a recess 6 in a filler head 5 through passages 12, 16, 17, a filler valve in the form of a sealing gasket 19 provided between a screw-in extension 14, 18 of the cylinder 8 and a flange 20 of the filler head 5, and a charging piston 9 provided with an extension 11 which, at the end of the stroke of the piston 9, seals against a gasket 13 to close the passages 12, 16. As shown, a compression spring 22 is provided between the charging cylinder 8 and the filler head 5 to hold the filler valve closed, so that when an aerosol container provided with a valve mechanism 2, 3, 4 is inserted in the recess 6, the filler head 5 is moved upwardly relative to the charging cylinder 8 against the action of compression spring 22 to open the filler valve, and compressed, liquefied gas, supplied through channel 10 to the cylinder 8, is forced down by piston 9 through the passages 12, 16, 17 and the filler valve to charge the container, the sealing of extension 11 against gasket 13 preventing further charging of the gas so that the compressed, liquefied gas is metered accurately. In modifications gasket 13 may be omitted and the piston may be arranged to cause closure of the filler valve at the end of its stroke.
