Abstract

1,238,532. Mixing and aerating liquids. H. FUCHS. 23 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 45146/68. Heading B1C. Mixing, emulsifying or aerating apparatus comprises an immersed rotatable impeller 5 surrounded by a stationary guide ring 60, the drive shaft 2 having a bore, and/or a tube 3 surrounding it, for the delivery of additives which can be metered by a valve 33 which may be automatically controlled by a property, e.g. oxygen content, of the liquid. The guide ring may be frusto-conical as shown, and have a collar (Fig. 2, not shown); be of aerofoil section (Fig. 3, not shown) and or be bowl-shaped and situated above or below (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the impeller. There may be more than one additive delivery tube surrounding the drive shaft (Figs. 6-8 not shown) and they may have apertures between them or communicating with the surrounding liquid to effect pre-mixing. The lower drive shaft bearing may have passages for the additive (Figs. 9-11, not shown). The lower end of the delivery tube may be flared, Fig. 13. The impeller may have spinal blades of experimental form (Fig. 12, not shown) which may be supported by a double concave curved guide web (Fig. 15, not shown). The hub 51 may have radial discharge passages (53, Fig. 16 not shown) communicating with the bore (21) of the drive shaft and opening at (54) on the level of the web 55. The flared ends 30', 40' of the delivery tubes 30, 40 may cooperate with scoop-shaped guide webs 56, 57 in the impeller, or the lower ends of the delivery tubes may be stepped (30", 40", Fig. 18 not shown) and cooperate with horizontal guide webs (76, 77) in the impeller. The impeller blades may have apertures or be subdivided into fingers.
