Abstract

1,238,456. Invalid beds. WADHAM STRINGER (COACHBUILDERS) Ltd. 14 Oct., 1968 [17 Nov., 1967], No. 52497/67. Heading A4J. A three-section articulated bed frame 18, 19, 20 is supported, on a mobile underframe 1, by a single pair of fixed pivot mountings 60, located at the base of the back section 20, and by telescopically extendable pivoted struts 42, 43, 56 and 61. Linked spring-plunger mechanisms 50 and 66 determine the lengths of struts 42, 43 and 61. Strut 56 has an internally screwthreaded tube (59, Fig. 5, not shown) engaging the head (56<SP>1</SP>) of a bolt turned by handle 57. Side guards 38 and 39 are locked in the upright position by plungers 41. The under-frame 1 may have castors 11, one of which has a conventional brake arrangement or, alternatively, it may be mounted on sledge runners.
