Abstract

123,822. Draper, W. March 7, 1918. Carding-engines.-The flats are stripped by traversing brushes having their axes in alinement or approximately so with the path of motion of the flats. The brush d, Fig. 3, is carried on bearings d<1> mounted on pins e extending from a plate e<1>, which is carried by a sleeve e<2> and traversed by a double-threaded screw g. The brush may rest on the flats by gravity or be supported by a projection n, Fig. 2, on the sleeve resting on a part o fixed to the frame. Two brushes may be employed and the clothing so arranged that they are operative one in each direction of traverse. They may be mounted on a tilting frame so that the inoperative brush is raised out of contact with the flat. The frame is provided with a rolling weight d<6>, Fig. 5, and projections d' to engage fingers p one at each end of the frame. The brushes may rotate in contact with the flat or be positively driven. Combs may be provided to remove the strippings from the brushes. The plate c<1> carrying the brushes may be supported by a spring to enable it to rise over obstructions.
