A process for the preparation of photographic images comprises hot-glazing or drying at elevated temperature an imagewise exposed, developed and fixed light-sensitive photographic material comprising at least one silver halide emulsion layer, characterised in that said photographic material when being hot-glazed or dried at elevated temperature is in working contact with a compound of the following general formula or a tautomeric form thereof or a salt of such tautomeric form: wherein R is alkyl, substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, substituted cycloalkyl, aralkyl, substituted aralkyl or aryl or substituted aryl. The compound defined above may be incorporated in the light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer and/or in a waterpermeable layer present at the same side of the support as the light-sensitive emulsion layer or in at least one of the baths for processing the photographic material such as the developing bath, the fixing bath, an additional hardening bath, and a bath which contains surface-active compounds. The object of the present invention is to prevent the silver-containing image from losing density (i.e. bronzing or plumming) or hot-glazing or drying at elevated temperature. The compounds defined above also reduce fog without influencing the sensitivity and gradation to any noteworthy extent, when incorporated in the material.
