Abstract

1,237,317. Stoppering &c. L. B. CALVILLO, and M. G. MARTINEZ. 23 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968; 17 May, 1969], No. 31698/69, Heading B8T. A machine for unscrewing caps from containers arranged in a predetermined manner in a crate comprises a plate 1 which carries extractor heads which are caused to descend on to the container necks by a pneumatic cylinder 6 actuated through a valve 5 by the operation of a stop 4 for locating the crate on a platform 3. Each extractor head contains a centring sleeve 20 which holds the container in position while punches 17 mounted on a rotary shaft 13 perforate the container cap. Air distributers 7 uncover orifices and pass compressed air to a cylinder 9 which pushes a rack 15 and, through the use of pinions 14, causes the shaft 13 to rotate to the left, thus unscrewing the stopper. An annular port 12 is in screw-threaded engagement with a surrounding sleeve (not shown), such that during rotation of the stopper, the shaft 13 rises. When the stopper has been unscrewed, the rack 15 operates a pneumatic cylinder to lower the stop 4, so releasing the crate and also causing the plate 1 and shaft 13 to be returned to their original positions. The stop 4 is then reset. An ejector rod 11 knocks the stoppers into a tray 2 which is removed before re-commencement of the cycle. The machine may also be used for fitting caps to containers by replacing certain elements, e.g. the punches 17 and ejectors 11 by a screwing-in cup which has a suction action for producing the force required for the screwing-in action.
