Abstract

1,236,520. Windscreen-washing apparatus. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. 9 Dec., 1969 [14 Dec., 1968], No. 60060/69. Heading B2F. Windscreen-washing apparatus for a vehicle is made up of a spray nozzle made of a resilient material with an outlet aperture in a mushroomlike head which is adapted for being secured in such a manner but forces tending to close the aperture are produced in the head, so that the aperture is closed when the apparatus is inoperative, but opens under the influence of the pressure of the washing liquid when the apparatus is operated. As shown the spray nozzle 4 of a windscreen washing installation is arranged in a hole 1 in the sheet-metal apron 2 in front of the windscreen 3. The nozzle 4, which is made of rubber or of a plastics material having rubber-like properties, has above the apron 2, a mushroom-like head 5, which is adjoined under the apron, by a shank 6. The arrangement is such that, when the nozzle is not installed, the outer edge 8 of the head 5 extends downwardly towards and overlaps the groove 7 (fig. 2 not shown). The shank 6 has a bore 9 which continues into the head 5; from the bore 9, a fine slit 10 leads out through the head 5 towards the screen 3. The slit 10 is maintained closed by forces produced in the head by edge 8, and opens when under pressure from the washing liquid.
