861,270. Spray nozzles. GOYETTE, F., and BEDARD, R. E. April 14, 1959 [April 23, 1958], No. 12693/59. Class 69 (3). A spray nozzle screwed in a pipe 10, e.g. for use in paper-making machines, comprises a body 12 with a bore 16 having a tubular cylinder 20 slidably mounted within it and a seat 30 which provides an obstruction, the tubular cylinder being held within the body by an H-shaped spring 50 and sealed by a washer 46. Liquid in the pipe 10 forces the cylinder 20, against spring action, into engagement with a conical surface 32 of the seat and emerges as a spray from a gouge 34. Whenever the nozzle becomes clogged, a temporary reduction of pressure in the pipe 10, sufficient to permit the spring to retract the tubular cylinder, provides a free flow of liquid past the seat 30 to wash away the obstructing material. The pipe may have several nozzles therein.
