Abstract

1,235,953. Nicotinyl α - (p - chlorophenoxy)- isobutyrate. ISTITUTO CHEMIOTERAPICO ITALIANO S.p.A. 24 Sept., 1969 [19 Feb., 1969], No. 47088/69. Heading C2C. Novel nicotinyl α - (p - chlorophenoxy) isobutyrate and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reaction of α-(p-chlorophenoxy) isobutyric acid with thionyl chloride and reaction of the resulting α - (p - chlorophenoxy) isobutyryl chloride with nicotinyl alcohol in the presence of pyridine, followed optionally by salification of the product. Pharmaceutical compositions having antihypercholesteremic and vasodilatory activity comprise, as active ingredient, nicotinyl α-(p-chlorophenoxy) isobutyrate or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, together with a non-toxic carrier therefor, and may be administered orally.
