Abstract
1276719 Benzomorphans SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 10 Dec 1969 [26 Dec 1968 (2)] 60330/69 Heading C2C Novel benzomorphans of the general formulµ wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-3 alkoxy or hydroxyl group, R 1 and R 2 are each a C 1-3 alkyl group, R 3 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-3 alkyl, C 1-3 alkoxy, C 1-3 alkylthio, nitro, trifluoromethyl, amino or hydroxyl group, R 4 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C 1-3 alkyl or C 1-3 alkoxy group and n is 3 or 4, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reaction of a benzomorphan of the general formula with a halide of the general formula wherein X is a halogen atom and Y is an oxygen atom or ethylenedioxy group, and, when Y is an ethylenedioxy group, optional hydrolysis of theresulting benzomorphan of the second general formula above in the presence of a catalytic amount of acid to give the corresponding benzomorphan of the first general formula above followed optionally by salification of the product. Pharmaceutical compositions having analgesic activity comprise, as active ingredient, a benzomorphan of the first general formula above or an acid addition salt thereof, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent, and may be administered orally or parenterally.
