Abstract

123,589. Turner, J., Parker, R. G., and British Dyes, Ltd. Feb. 27, 1918. Filter-presses; platen presses.-To facilitate pressing the plates of a filter press together after the ordinary filtration is finished to expel the residual liquid, the plates are separated by collapsible or compressible frames. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, these frames C are formed of hollow rings of metal with beaded edges F, somewhat like the cover of a bicycle tyre, bearing against appropriately shaped surfaces G<1>, G<2> formed on the plates D. The frames C contain hollow rubber cores 1, the expansion of which opens out the frames when the pressure is released. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the frames are made in two portions, one portion Q being formed with an annular groove S into which the other portion R fits like a piston, cup leathers being provided. The groove X is supplied with liquid under pressure through a pipe T, whereby the frames are pressed liquid-tight against the plates, and opened out when the end pressure is removed.
