Abstract
1,235,445. Coated coil. HOESCH A.G. 1 April, 1970 [18 June, 1969], No. 15454/70. Heading B2E. [Also in Division F2] The wire 102 of a coil spring (10, Figs. I and 2, not shown) is coated first with an adhesive layer 11 and then with a layer 12 of resilient plastics material based on PVC. Preferably for a wire of 10 to 20mm diameter, the adhesive layer has a thickness of 0.008 to 0.01 mm, and the resilient plastics layer has a thickness of 0.5 to 1 mm, a shore A hardness of 65 to 85, and a specified composition including about 54% of PVC. Before coating, the wire of the spring is tempered and strengthened by shot blasting. Then the spring is immersed in an adhesive until a layer of the required thickness is formed. This layer is annealed for 20 minutes at 180‹C, and then the spring is dipped for 2 to 3 seconds at 130‹ to 170‹C in a composition comprising about 54% of PVC, 27% of phthalic ester (a plasticizer), 5% extender with a fatty acid base, a stabilizer, a wetting agent and a toner and blender. The plastics layer is then hardened for 20 minutes at 180‹C.
