Abstract

1,235,062. Polymerization of alkenes. STAMICARBON N.V. 14 May, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 24662/69. Heading C3P. Solutions of alkene polymers are prepared by polymerization of one or more alkenes at above 110‹ C. in a liquid dispersing agent using a catalyst obtained by mixing an Al-halogen compound, a Ti compound and an organo-Mg compound, and incorporating an activator into the catalyst during and/or after the preparation and/or mixing of the catalyst components, the activator being an alkanol, alkenol, alkanolate, alkenolate, carboxylic acid or salt or ester thereof, ketone or aldehyde. In the examples ethylene or propylene is polymerized using AlEt 2 Cl, AlEt 1À5 Cl 1À5 or AlCl 3 as Al-halogen component; Ph 2 Mg, C 4 H 9 (C 10 H 21 O)Mg, (C 4 H 9 ) 2 Mg, C 4 H 9 - (C 3 H 7 O)Mg, C 4 H 9 MgCl and 2(C 4 H 9 O) 2 .O(C 4 H 9 ) 2 - Mg as organo-Mg component; TiCl 4 , TiCl 3 Ti(OC 4 H 9 ) 4 or TiCl 3 /VOCl 3 as Ti component; decanol, cyclohexanone, benzoic acid, butylacrylate, benzaldehyde, Al(OEt) 3 , and Mgstearate as activator and pentamethylheptane and hexane as diluent.
