Expansion joints.- In an expansion joint of the kind in which an inner telescopic member is internally tapered to reduce the thickness at the extremity so that the pressure of the fluid in the pipe line tends to expand the inner member and preserve a fluid-tight sliding joint, the taper is non-uniform. The taper a<1> may be of parabolic or other curvature, or an undulating surface a<5> may be provided. External corrugations may be provided as shown. The external diameter of the inner member may be reduced except at that part of the tapered extremity which makes joint with the outer member b, as shown at c. Reference is made to Specification 123,373.
