Abstract

1,233,287. Cable reels. E. HAFNER. 19 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968], No. 25337/69. Heading B8M. A cable drum comprising a cylindrical winding core 1 and two radially extending flange discs 2, 3 is characterized in that the core and flange discs are formed of a " hard " plastics material, e.g. high impact polystyrene and that a resilient ring 9, preferably of polyethylene, is provided at the peripheral edge of each flange disc. The ring 9 may be sprung into a peripheral groove in the flange disc or be held in a recess in the flange disc by a threaded plate 10. Several forms of cross-section of the resilient ring are illustrated; the ring may comprise an inner continuous band with outwardly projecting hollow or solid projections; the ring may comprise an outer continuous band with inwardly projecting hollow or solid projections; the ring may comprise a band with transverse recesses of any desired shape. In a further example the ring is in the form of a plastics corrugated band. Each resilient ring may be provided with a metal insert on the outer peripheral edge. In an alternative embodiment the resilient ring is in the form of a metal ring supported on radially effective springs.
