Abstract

1389735 Torsional vibration dampers METZELER AG 5 May 1972 [6 May 1971] 20987/72 Heading F2S In a torsional vibration damper of the resiliently tuned inertia weight type, the inertia weight 1 is supported on the hub 2 by at least one elastomeric element 5 under radial precompression in the gap 3 between the hub 2 and the inertia weight 1. The gap 3 is of constant width, but does not lie at a constant distance from the axis of the damper, and the elastomeric elements are located at the places where the gap approaches the axis. The elastomeric element 5 can be V-shaped in cross-section as shown and Fig. 3 (not shown), U-shaped (Fig. 5, not shown), square or rhombic (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown), oval (Fig. 8, not shown) or form part of a circle (Fig. 4, not shown). The elastomeric element can be sandwiched between metal elements before being inserted in the gap 3. It may instead have a core of harder material (Fig. 7). A plurality of elastomeric elements may be joined together into a ring (Fig. 10, not shown) and inserted as a whole into the gap. This ring may be sandwiched between inner and outer metal rings. The elastomeric element can be formed with ridges (6, 7, Fig. 3) which engage in grooves (8, 9, Fig. 1, not shown) in the hub and the inertia weight to prevent relative axial movement of the hub and inertia weight. Alternatively the element can be secured in the gap.
