Footwear of the clog-bottom type in which the bottom or sole is made of wood and is provided with a wear or friction tread, includes means for conducting static electricity from the wearer to earth, the material of both the bottom and upper being chosen to be capable of withstanding for a number of times a sterilisation treatment comprising heating the foootwear at 100‹C, to 150‹C. for between 15 and 60 minutes. The sole is preferably beech wood and the upper is preferably fabric coated with emulsified polyvinyl chloride containing a softener and a stabilizer. The upper is secured to the sole, by copper nails, preferably with a nylon band under the heads of all the nails. A moisture absorbing layer may be bonded to the inner surface of the upper.
