Abstract

1,232,178. Reciprocating pumps. F. K. FOX and J.W. MUNCE. Dec. 1, 1969 [March 10, 1969], No.58644/69. Heading F1A. A pendulum-actuated bilge pump comprises a double acting piston 21 reciprocated in a cylinder 22 by a pendulum 17 acting through a shaft 14 and a belt and pulley system. On either side of pendulum rod 18, shaft 14 carries pulleys 53 to each of which is secured a pair of belts 73, 74, e.g. of nylon which pass around pulleys 78 and are secured to plates 81 mounted on either end of a pin 26, Fig. 4, passing through and fixed to piston 21. Each pulley 53 comprises two discs each attached to a respective belt 73, 74, the discs being angularly adjustable relative to one another, and the pulley being angularly adjustable on shaft 14, so that the belt tension can be adjusted to prevent binding of the piston. Each end of cylinder 22 has inlet and outlet ball valves 36, 38 of resilient material having a specific gravity slightly greater than that of water. A common inlet line is connected to a strainer 43.
