Abstract

1,231,074. Drafting and blending system. IDEAL INDUSTRIES Inc. 6 May, 1968 [4 May, 1967], No. 21381/68. Headings D1D, D1F and D1N. Textile slivers of different types, e.g. synthetic or natural fibres of different staple length, are blended by passing different slivers through different ones of a plurality of individual drafting units I-IV, superimposing drafted slivers of each type onto a common conveyor 12 and then passing the combined sliver through a secondary drafting unit V. The units are all driven by a common prime mover and transmission means interposed between the prime mover and each unit controls the speed of rotation of the front drafting rollers of the drafting units independantly of each other. Drafting heads Each head comprises back roller", 31, 31', front rollers 34, 34' and two pairs of intermediate rollers 32, 32' and 33, 33'. Preferably at least one roller is of the metallic roll type, i.e. metallic, intermeshing, fluted rollers, and at 'least one roller is of the cushion type, i.e. smooth faced upper roller and fluted bottom roller for at least the front rollers and the front pair of the intermediate rollers. Conveying the slivers between the primary and secondary units. A curved member 11 guides the sliver issuing from each primary unit through 90‹ and a pair of fluted callender rollers 15 is positioned adjacent the discharge end of each member 11 and feeds the sliver onto the conveyor 12. The conveyor is driven by the prime mover at such a speed as to pull and partially remove the crimp from the webs. A ' A secondary pair of fluted callender rollers 16 is positioned adjacent the inlet of unit V. The callender rollers are also driven by the prime mover.
