Abstract

A vulcanizing press in an explosion proof form for underground working comprises co-operating electrically heated pressure plates e.g. 1 each carrying on its remote surface a casing 2 surrounding the end component 5 of a mains power controller e.g. a current indicator, control switch, or an alarm, each casing 2 having one side aligned approximately with the adjacent edge of its plate 1 and having an explosion proof electrical plug 4 secured to said one side and projecting away from the edge. As shown, casing 2 extends generally parallel to the longer sides of plate 1 and is releasably or permanently connected to a flange 3 which is spaced from the adjacent edge of plate 1 by an air gap 6 or heat insulation. The casing 2 is additionally protected from overheating by plate 1 by heat insulation 7. The plug 4 is secured to the flange 3 by screws, heat insulation 8 being provided therebetween. The supply cable is fitted to the plug 4. Pressure bars may be arranged on either side of casing 2 and extend parallel thereto.
