1,230,498. Benzoate esters of 4-pyrazolidinols. A. H. ROBINS CO. Inc. 5 May, 1969 [9 May, 1968], No. 22816/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula where the R's are the same and denote C 1-8 alkyl or phenyl-C 1-8 alkyl ; R<SP>1</SP> denotes H, NO 2 , C 1-8 alkyl, C 1-8 alkoxy, F, Cl, Br, NH 2 , -NHC 1-8 alkyl, or CF 3 ; R<SP>2</SP> denotes H, C 1-8 alkoxy, F, Cl or Br; and acid addition salts thereof, are obtained by reaction of a 1,2- disubstituted - 4 - pyrazolidinol of the formula wherein Y denotes halogen or OH. 1,2 - Disubstituted - 4 - pyrazolidinols of Formula (II) are prepared by reacting hydrazines R.NHNHR with epichlorohydrin at temperatures of 0-24‹ C. Pharmaceutical compositions for use as local anaesthetics comprise compounds of Formula (I) above, or addition salts thereof in the form of sprays, lotions and ointments for topical application. Preparations for infiltration, nerve block, spinal, peridural and caudal anaesthesia comprise aqueous sterile solutions of the salts.
