Abstract

2,4-Diamino-5-phenylpyrimidines in the form of the free base or an acid addition salt thereof are provided of general formula (I), wherein R<1> is hydrogen, halogen or an alkoxy group having a carbon chain of 1-4 carbon atoms while R<2> is hydrogen or an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms. The compounds are useful for therapeutic treatment, for example as antitumour agents, antipsoriatic agents and antimalarial agents, and pharmaceutical preparations for administration to mammals are disclosed. Particularly useful compounds, especially for antitumour therapy, have the azido group in the 3'- or 4'-position and R<1> in the 4'- or 3'-position of the phenyl group.
