Abstract

1,230,475. Rotary motors. GAS COUNCIL. Nov.12, 1969 [Nov.13, 1968], No.53771/68. Heading F1F. A reversible gas-driven motor of the sliding vane kind having a cylindrical chamber 11, provided with a pair of inlet ports 20, 21 and an eccentric rotor 12 provided with a plurality of radicallysliding vanes, 13 includes a double-wallet easing 10 sub-divided into an inlet manifold 14 and an outlet manifold 15 and having in its inner wall a pair of radical ports 25 co-operable with the inlet ports 20, 21 and a plurality of radical ports 24 co-operable with a corresponding member circumferentially spaced vent apertures 17 through the chamber 11. A handle 23 fixed to the casing 10 permit rotation of the casing relative to the chamber to reverse the motor, vary its speed and control the opening and closing of the vent apertures 17. In the position shown, inlet ports 20 is open and inlet port 21 closed so that rotor rotates anti-clockwise. Vents 17 on the driving side of the chamber 11 are closed whilst the remainder remain open to prevent any re-comporession of the exhausting gas. On movement of the handle 23 clockwise port 20 is closed and port 21 opened with the rotor then rotating clockwise and the previously open vents 17, now on the driving side of the chamber, closed and the other vents open. An annular seal 22 of P. T. F, E, fixed either to the casing or chamber is interposed between the casing and chamber.
