Abstract
1,229,734. Cycloalkanones and cycloalkanols. RHONE-POULENC S.A. 3 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 17710/69. Heading C2C. A cycloalkane is converted to a mixture of the corresponding cycloalkanone and cycloalkanol rich in the cycloalkanone by a continuous process in which a solution of the corresponding cycloalkyl hydroperoxide in the cycloalkane, obtained by oxidizing the cycloalkane in the liquid phase with molecular oxygen, is heated in the liquid phase at 80-150‹ C. in the presence of a soluble chromium compound as catalyst, in a series of separate reaction zones, in each of which the hydroperoxide concentration is maintained at an essentially uniform value throughout the zone by agitation of the liquid content. Examples are given of the conversion of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol.
