1341187 Saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acids IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [14 Feb 1970] 1834/70 Heading C2C Saturated aliphatic dicarboxylic acids are prepared by oxidizing a cycloalkanol and/or a cycloalkanone with nitric acid (40 to 70% strength by weight) in an oxidation zone at a temperature and operating pressure at which ebullition takes place with the production of a refluxing stream of aqueous nitric acid, the rate of feed of the starting material being such that distillation takes place through a fractionation zone. Copper and/or vanadium salts may be added to the reaction mixture to act as a catalyst.
