Abstract
122,961. Anderton, J., and Anderton, L. March 28, 1918. Yarns, beaming.-In machines having additional pressing-means for acting upon the yarns at or near the beam flanges, each pressing-device is carried by an arm h, Fig. 1, loosely mounted on a stud h<1> and pressed towards the beam b by a spring m, which surrounds the stud and has its ends secured to the arm and a collar on the stud respectively so that it is wound up as the arm is moved outwards. A pawl n<2> pivoted to the arm co-operates with a ratchet-quadrant n fixed to the stud to hold the pressing-device in the positions to which it is forced by the yarn wound on the beam, or away from the beam during examination of the yarn and charging of the beam. A thumb-piece n<4> on the pawl enables the arm to be readily released. The pressing-devices may be conical rollers c, or cylindrical rollers, or blocks of wood of rectangular, triangular, or other section, the outer edge of each block being bevelled to minimize contact with the beam flange b<1>. The spindle c<1> of the roller or block is mounted in a bearing d, Fig. 3, having a stem d<1> rotatable in a sleeve c and held in position by a nut d<2>. The sleeve c has an extension e<1> secured by a setscrew e<2> within an opening in the end of the arm h, the arrangement being such that the roller or block may be adjusted as desired.
