Abstract

1,229,194. Stern tube bearing. TURNBULL MARINE DESIGN CO. Ltd. 19 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967], No. 19057/67. Addition to 1,053,693. Heading B7S. In a ship whose propeller tail-shaft 16 is so encased in and supported by a split bearing 11, 12 that part of the bearing is removable to allow inspection of the tail-shaft without disturbance of any part operative to propel the ship and while the ship is still afloat, rollers 38 on hydraulic jacks 28 secure the bearing in a shaft encasement position around the tail-shaft, the jacks being operable to withdraw part of the bearing from that position. In the embodiment described the upper part 12 of the split bearing is withdrawn by the jacks along tracks 45.
