Abstract

1,227,638. Mechanical switches. TEKTRONIX Inc. 1 Oct., 1969 [7 Oct., 1968], No. 48227/69. Heading H1N. A printed circuit board 16 is provided with a number of conductive strips 50, fixed switch contacts 14 being formed by some of the strips. Movable contacts 12 are spot-welded to metal mounting pins 54 which are each soldered to one of the strips 50. As shown, a switch actuator comprises a cam drum 10 with sets of axiallyspaced cam elements 18 which may be separate from or integral with the drum. The movable contact 12 includes a cam-engaging portion 56 and a bifurcated contact portion 58. The conductive strips 50 may be connected to circuit components such as resistors, capacitors, or transistors on the board. A control shaft is keyed to a rotary detent member 37 attached to the front of the cam drum, the detent 37 having notches 40 engaging roller 42 held by leaf-spring 44 between shoulders 45. A stop member 46 has projection 48 for engaging a stop on a front bushing. The cam actuator is mounted on the circuit board. In a modification, a two-position switch having a sliding cam actuator with four laterallyspaced cam portions, is coupled to a control shaft through a sleeve having flanges adapted to engage a U-shaped end of an actuator cam. A guide for the cam member is attached to the circuit board, Figs. 6-8 (not shown). In other arrangements push-button cam actuators may be employed.
