Abstract
1495215 Mechanical switches MURATA MFG CO Ltd 2 Feb 1976 [17 Feb 1975 3 April 1975 23 Sept 1975 (2) 30 Sept 1975 28 Nov 1975 (3) 24 Dec 1975] 03980/76 Heading H1N An electric switch comprises an insulating substrate 10 having sockets 13, 14 housing the inner ends of terminals 15 which project from the substrate 10, fixed contacts 22 positioned in some or all of the sockets 13, 14 in engagement with the terminals 15 and a movable contact 19, 20 for connecting at least one of the terminals 15 to at least one of the others through the fixed contacts 22 in the sockets 13, 14. In one embodiment, the substrate 10 is formed with two circular rows of apertures 13, 14, each of which is divided into two sockets 13a, 13b, 14a, 14b by a terminal 15. A fixed contact 22 comprising a bent H-shaped strip or a coil spring is positioned in one of the inner row sockets 13a or 13b and similar fixed contacts 22 positioned in the sockets of the outer row 14a or 14b except for the one opposite the contact 22 in the inner row. Rotatably mounted on opposed surfaces of the substrate 10 are rotary discs 17, 18 held together by a sleeve 21 and each provided with a circular conductive portion (19a, 20a) (Fig. 4a, not shown) which permanently engages the fixed contact 22 in the inner row and a radially extending conductive tongue (19b, 20b) which is selectively engageable with one of the fixed contacts 22 in the outer row depending on the rotary position of the discs 17, 18. Each switching position is defined by a spring biased detent ball 25b engaging a recess 24d. The terminals 15 may be provided on one or both sides of a printed circuit board (Fig. 6, not shown). The arrangement of fixed contacts 22 may be altered as desired, e.g. more than one fixed contact 22 may be provided in the inner row of sockets if the rotary disc 17, 18 is provided with the same number of conductive portions (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown). The switch may be provided with one terminal which is selectively engageable with one of two other terminals. In another embodiment, the substrate includes two pairs of parallel rows of sockets (45-48), Fig. 12 (not shown), a terminal (43, 44) communicating with two aligned sockets of a pair. The terminals (43, 44) are interconnected via the fixed contacts 22 in the sockets and a movable contact element (50a, 50b) provided on a slidable plate (49). The substrate 10 may be provided with slots 60 to avoid crosstalk.
