Abstract

1,227,482. Foamable ceramics. OTSUKA KAGAKU YAKUHIN K.K. 24 June, 1969, No. 31912/69. Heading C1J. A foamable ceramic free from organics comprises, in p.b.w., 100 of pulverized ceramic, 40- 150 of water-glass, and 0.5 to 10 of an inorganic blowing agent liberating a gas on heating to 50-300‹ C. The ceramic passes a 50 mesh, and preferably is - 100, + 300. A long list of ceramics is given including inter alia BN, Be 3 N, CrN, SiN, TaN, TiN, ZrN, Al 2 O 3 , BaO, CaO, CoO, FeO, MeC, ThC 2 , WC, kaolin, feldspar, talc, dolomite, silica, wollastonite and limestone. Optionals include double fluorides; colloidal silica or alumina; reinforcants, e.g. asbestos, rock wool, glass fibres, metal powders, polyamide and polyester fibres; and stabilizers, e.g. p.v.a., NaSt, albumin, starch, gelatin, phloxine and saponin. The foamed products can be fired, e.g. 800-1600‹ C. to strengthen them.
