Abstract
1,226,305. Washing casks; walking beam conveyers; tipping bags. C. A. NEUBECKER. 23 Jan., 1970 [29 Jan., 1969], No. 3454/70. Headings B8A, B8E and B8T. A device for internally cleaning kegs by spraying the interior with jets through the keg bung hole comprises a conveyer together with a device that can, if the bung hole of the keg is on the flat end wall of the keg, first turn the keg while on its side about a vertical axis, and then invert the keg so that the bung hole is downwardly directed. If the bung hole is on the curved side surface of the keg, the keg is left lying on its curved surface, with the bung hole facing downwardly. The kegs are first cleaned externally at 2 and are advanced by means of a walking beam conveyer, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), through an automatic bung hole location point 3 to a first turning point 12. At this point those kegs having a bung hole in their end wall are rotated through 90 degrees about a vertical axis by motor 15. The kegs are then advanced to a second turning point 13, where they are gripped by two plates (16), Fig. 4 (not shown), which are attached to arms (17). The. plates are then rotated by a motor (19) to rotate the keg through 90 degrees about a horizontal axis, so that the bung hole is downwardly directed.
