[Also in Divisions D1-D2] A dimensionally stable textile fabric comprises a single fibrous layer which is a non- woven web consisting entirely of shrunk fibres held together by needle-punch knitting lines (with or without a bonding thread) or two or more fibrous layers held and/or joined together by needle-punch knitting lines, at least one of the layers is a non-woven fibrous web constituted entirely or in part by shrunk fibres, the shrunk fibres which are locked by at least two lines of needle-punch knitting being in a tensioned state and most or all of any other fibres being in a bulked state. At least one layer may be a woven, knitted, or non-woven fabric of unshrunk fibres. In a process for manufacturing the above fabric, a single layer of a non-woven fabric consisting wholly of shrinkable fibres or partly of shrinkable fibres and partly of already shrunk fibres, or an assembly of two or more layers of which at least one is a non-woven fabric consisting wholly or partly of shrinkable fibres, is needle-punch knitted, with or without a bonding thread and subsequently subjected to a treatment to cause shrinking of the shrinkable fibres. The fabric produced may be laminated with a polyvinyl chloride film with an intermediate sheet of foamed polyvinyl chloride by high-frequency welding. The shrinkable fibres may be heterogeneous materials obtained by the simultaneous spinning of two constituents having different shrinking properties.
