Abstract

1,225,536. Forms of wood; wood-plastics laminates. V. JEPPESENS SAWAERK A.S. 14 Oct., 1968 [25 Oct., 1967; 8 Nov., 1967], No. 48665/68. Headings B5L and B5N. [Also in Division E1] Tongue and groove beams for constructing log cabins comprise inner 1 and outer 2 layers of wood glued to a central insulating layer 3 of foam plastics, neck portions 6 being provided adjacent the ends or at wall junctions. In a modification (Fig. 3) the upper and lower surfaces of the neck portions are triangular section tongues and grooves, and the foam plastics of the tongue is compressed into the groove to give a better seal. The foam plastics of the tongue 5 may be formed with a groove and the lower end may be formed with a narrow portion projecting into the groove 4 so that a double tongue and groove is formed (Fig. 7). Alternatively each wooden side member has an independent groove and tongue and the foam plastics projects at the top and is received at the bottom so that a triple tongue and groove is formed (Fig. 8). In a further modification (Figs. 5 and 6) oppositely directed members are formed with complementary arched necks so that intersecting beams may be in same plane.
