Abstract
1,225,133. Pneumatic separation. DOMTAR Ltd. 9 Oct., 1968 [10 Oct., 1967], No. 47805/ 68. Heading B2H. [Also in Division Dl] Clusters of particles such as wood pulp fibres are broken up and selectively discharged by introducing the particle clusters into a duct 12 which has a dispersion section 20, an outwardly convex. curved positioning section 24 and an outwardly concave curved classification section 22, and discharging the opened material through duct 30 which is located towards the end of the concave classification section. An elastic fluid, e.g. air is moved through the duct with sufficient velocity to break up the clusters in the dispersion zone and move the particles through the duct. The duct can have a return section 26 for recycling unopened material. The opened particulate material can be received on a foraminous belt 34 under suction. Adjustable jet 27 can inject air into the duct and a second air jet 32 may be provided for increasing the energy of the material as it approaches the section 22. The duct preferably can have a substantially rectangular cross section.
