Abstract
122,429. Shephard, W. S. April 4, 1918. Road traffic signals on vehicles.-In a turning and stopping signalling device for motorvehicles, an indicator is provided for each of the signals "right," "left" and " stop," and each indicator comprises a number of pivotally mounted plates a which can be rotated simultaneously to display either side of the plates. On one side is painted an arrow or suitable word, and the plates are rotated to exhibit this word &c. by means of a rack c', c<2>, c<3> engaging pinions on the plate spindles and operated by a corresponding electro - magnet, the armature of which moves the rack through a connexion f<1>, f<2>, or pin- and-slot engagement e'. The turning-signal electro-magnets are controlled by contacts operated by the steering wheel, and the stopping signal by contacts closed when the brake is applied. Lamps may be provided to illuminate the plates at night; the Specification also states that the plates may be replaced by transparencies illuminated from behind.
