Abstract

1,224,176. Valves. NORCON (NORRIS) Ltd. 18 Dec., 1968 [19 Dec., 1967], No. 57492/67. Heading F2V. A bi-stable spool valve has pilot needles 27B which, when positioned as shown by solenoids 27<SP>1</SP>, 27<SP>11</SP>, open and close respectively outlets 27A from the right- and left-hand chambers of bore 25. Fluid flowing from inlet 22 to the left-hand chamber via restriction 32 thereby serves to shift spool 26 to the right. Upon de-energizing solenoid 27<SP>1</SP> and energizing solenoid 27<SP>11</SP>, the spool will shift to the left. The connections between the inlet and the pressure chambers may alternatively comprise grooves in lands 33. Grooves 35 in the spool ends prevent the latter from closing outlets 27A. The solenoids can be energized by A.C. or D.C. currents, and control may be via a transistorized logic air unit. In Fig. 1, not shown, a monostable spool (6) is positioned by pilot valve (7) to connect a work port (3) to inlet (2) or exhaust (4).
