Abstract
1,223,670. Glow discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Nov., 1969 [13 Nov., 1968], No. 54901/69. Heading HID. A gas discharge display tube as claimed in Specification 1,182,050 includes within the envelope first and second, spaced apart, radiation permeable electrodes 22, 23 or electrode portions common to all the electrode groups and situated between the groups and a viewing window of the tube. The electrodes which prevent coupling between electrode groups comprise a pair of aligned or off-set rectangular gauzes, alternatively one of the electrodes may comprise a conductive coating on the inside of the window. In another embodiment wire is wound over an open frame such that the portion of wire on one side is at an angle to the portion of wire on the other side. The sides and base of the U-shaped anodes are provided with inwardly directed flanges to eliminate extraneous light near the bottom of the anodes. The anodes also have lugs which are clamped rigidly to a supporting mica strip 4. The anodecathode assembly is clamped in a U-shaped metal sheath and inserted into the envelope 1 which may be provided with a red filter.
