Abstract

1,012,333. Lamp caps and holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 27, 1962 [May 1, 1961], No. 16165/62. Heading H2E. [Also in Division H1] A fluorescent panel lamp comprises a generally flat vitreous envelope having a marginal ledge 9 extending along its periphery; and a pair of base structures 17 mounted on the ledge and having terminals 21 so constructed and arranged that they are engageable by longitudinal displacement along the ledge of a bar-shaped circuit connector 43. The lamp shown consists of two glass mouldings joined at the ledge by fusing or glass solder, the front moulding having a zig-zag discharge channel 5, the back a dimpled shape 7. The bases 17 are fixed by clips 34, or by cement, and by tangs 41 which engage the grooved channels in the lamp face; the telescopic barshaped connector has a spring-loaded portion 46. The inside of the back moulding may carry a reflective coating. Starting strips 51 are joined by a bus-bar 52 connected to side connector 53. The filling may be argon at 0.5- (2-3)-5 torr. with saturated mercury. The electrodes 10 are strengthened by an insulating bridge 13. In a modification, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), the top of the base moulding is not open but has an additional projecting brow giving further engagement with the connector 43 so that the latter can be safely used for carrying the lamp.
