746,669. Lamp-holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BATE, H. C., and BOWTELL, J. N. March 12, 1954 [March 13, 1953], No. 7019/53. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XL (a)] An area of each conducting layer of an electroluminescent plaque is exposed externally on a part which provides a solid backing, the exposed areas facing outwards in the same direction so that they can be held in grooves or slots in holders having resilient supply contacts correspondingly placed. In Fig. 1, sheets of copper foil 6, 11 are in contact with the transparent conducting layer 2 and the aluminium layer 12 respectively and overlap the edge of the glass support 1, and after the assembly has been coated with a layer of polythene, small areas of the foil are exposed by cutting away the superimposed layers. A suitable holder comprises an insulating backing member 16 with an L-section support bar 17 along its lower edge carrying spaced spring-loaded contact plungers 20. In a modification (Figs. 5-8, not shown), portions of the foils on the edge of the glass plate are exposed and coact with plungers along the bottom of the groove of the holder, a retaining member being provided along the top edge of the holder.
