Abstract
1,269,143. Thermionic cathode constructions. RCA CORPORATION. 22 Sept., 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 46544/69. Heading HID. [Also in Division G1] A longitudinal heater 26 is mounted in a tubular cathode 11, e.g. of a three gun colour cathode ray tube, by attaching a U-shaped metal tab 68 to the wire legs 28, 30 of the heater and inserting it into the open end 12 of the cathode and applying a predetermined calibrated force, Fig. 5 (not shown), to the tab to urge the heater 26 into contact with the closed end 14 of the cathode, each arm 32, 33 of the tab is then fixed to a respective support 34, 36 and the portion of the U-shaped tab which joins the arms 32, 33 is removed to electrically isolate the arms from each other except through the heater. Preferably the tab arms 32, 33 are close enough so that the wire legs 28, 30 lie within the projection of the open end of the cathode. Each heater and tab assembly is made of similar dimensions so that, for example, the three cathodes of a three gun C.R.T. operate under identical conditions for the same heater current and the three guns may be mounted such that they are electrically connected in series, Fig. 2 (not shown). The cathode 11 is supported by tubular flared member 16, 18, 19 to two glass supports 22, 24 to which also is attached the heater supports 34, 36.
