Abstract

1,222,359. Valves. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY Ltd. 25 April, 1968 [4 May, 1967], No. 20769/67. Heading F2V. A gate valve comprises a housing I, a threaded spindle 2 which is secured for rotational but not longitudinal movement in the housing by a nut 4, and a gate 3 which is displaceable on the spindle between the position shown, in which flow through the valve passage 1A is obstructed, and a lower position (Fig. 2, not shown), in which the gate is disposed within the valve chamber 1C and free flow can take place through the passage 1A. When in its lower position, the gate can be detached from the spindle by withdrawing the spindle upwardly through the housing subsequent to removal of the nut 4, a solid sealing plug (8) being then insertable into the housing in place of nut 4 in order to seal the valve from its surroundings.
