Abstract

1,221,923. Hand trucks. TILGATE PALLETS Ltd. 14 Feb., 1968 [15 Nov., 1966], No. 51073/66. Heading B7B. [Also in Division B8] A load cage 10 for a pallet 11 comprises two side panels 12, two end panels 13 and a removable lid 14. The cage 10 is arranged to be assembled around the pallet without any part overlapping the loading surface. Each side panel 12 has a transversely-projecting locating member 25 with a lip 26 arranged to co-operate with a corner block 35 of the pallet 11. In addition each side panel 12 has a flat locating plate 30 arranged to co-operate with a further corner block 35. Each end panel 13 has two pins 33 and two latch plates 34 respectively arranged to co-operate with eyes 28 and latch prongs 27 on respective side panels 12. The top members 39 of the side panels 12 permit stacking of the pallets the lower edges of the panels 12 carrying the weight and it is possible to remove one end panel 13 to allow access to the loading area without interfering with the stacking arrangement. Instead of being rigidly attached to the side panel 12 the member 25 may be hinged and provided with a latch (not shown). In a modified embodiment (not shown) suitable for use with a wheeled load platform the corner fittings 25 having the lip 26 omitted and are provided with an aperture to co-operate with an outwardly protruding pin mounted on the platform. The members 30 are also omitted and each side panel carries at that lower corner an apertured latch plate mounted parallel to the panel and arranged to receive a latch prong protruding from the edge of the platform along which the panel is fitted. One or each end panel may be hinged to a vertical edge of a side panel and provided with a latch is as to form a gate (not shown). The cage may be applied to any suitable rectangular base member to form a load container.
