Abstract

1,151,459. Lifting containers; containers. SVERRE MUNK A/S. 20 Sept., 1967 [26 Sept., 1966], No. 42791/67. Headings B8H and B8P. [Also in Division E2] A container for transport and storage of goods comprises a parallelepipedic body provided with two pairs of brackets rigidly secured to the body and arranged for engaging lifting gear suspended from a crane, boom or the like, wherein each pair of brackets is spaced an equal distance from an end of the container, the two pairs are spaced a predetermined distance apart, and each bracket is inset into the top surface of the container and includes a first part secured to the body and a second part extending from the first part inwardly of the body towards the corresponding bracket of the pair with the top surface of the bracket being in the plane of the top surface of the body, whereby the container may be lifted by lifting gear engaging the brackets underneath the second parts. The container comprises two pairs of inwardly protruding inverted L-shaped members 2, 3 which are secured to or made integral with reinforcements (1<SP>1</SP>), (Fig. 1, not shown), which give better load distribution when the container is stacked. Two L-shaped elements 4 of a lifting frame of a crane which are pivot able about vertical axes engage each member. The members may alternatively each be engaged by hook elements pivotable on the frame about horizontal axes. A plurality of differently sized containers each adapted to be lifted by a single lifting frame may be provided.
