Abstract

1,221,775. Bearing surfaces. COURTAULDS Ltd. 10 June, 1968 [28 March, 1967], No. 13959/67. Heading F2A. A shaft bearing comprises a dispersion of graphitized carbon fibres embedded in a matrix of a synthetic organic polymer resin the fibres being aligned to transfer heat from the bearing surface, and the load bearing surface being broken by at least some of the fibres. The resin may be P.T.F.E., a polyolefin, or a polyamide, or phenolformaldehyde, ureaformaldehyde, or an epoxy, polyester polyacetal, polyethyleneoxide or polyimide resin. The fibres constitute 10 to 70% by weight of the composite.
