Abstract

1,220,797. Surface condensers. HUDSON PRODUCTS CORP. 25 June, 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 32168/69. Heading F4S. An air-cooled vapour condenser consists of rows of tubes 13 of equal length, extending between inlet and outlet headers 11, 12 respectively for steam or other vapour to be condensed, the tubes having fins 17 thereon and the finned length of tube in the tubes of one row if there are only two rows, or an outer row (e.g. row A) if there are more than two rows, being less than that in the other or in succeeding rows respectively. The condenser shown has four rows A, B, C, D of tubes over which an air stream flows and the finned tube length increases progressively in successive rows in the direction X of air flow, the unfinned portions of tube always extending from the outlet header 12. Regulating means 18 for the air flow are downstream of the tube assembly and may comprise louvres or a screen with adjustable openings. The condenser may be a vent condenser and be connected in series with and downstream of one or more main condensers (Fig. 3).
